This section begins with how to write a title that will catch the reader’s attention when they are looking for articles online. We then discuss the importance of keywords and strategies for choosing ones that will increase your discoverability. Next, we discuss strategies for writing an impressive abstract to improve your impact and influence in the field. Finally, we review additional strategies that researchers can use to promote their research after publication. Unlike writing scientific articles, communicating research to a non-specialist audience can be a challenge. However, doing so can increase collaborative research opportunities as well as better inform the public. This module first discusses how to structure a science story (compared with an article) to effectively engage with the target audience. We then review writing strategies that can help researchers translate complex words and ideas in a way that can be understood by non-specialists. We finally discuss how researchers can reach their audience, focusing mostly on press offices and social media.
