COURSE INFORMATION

The webinar series will explore key challenges in radiation protection and optimisation in paediatric CT and imaging of pregnant patients. Across four webinars, topics will include balancing radiation dose with diagnostic confidence, practical optimisation of paediatric CT protocols, appropriate imaging and risk communication during pregnancy, and identifying variability, overuse and hidden radiation exposure in everyday paediatric CT practice.

Each webinar will include presentations and discussions from a radiologist, a radiographer and a medical physicist. In addition to this, each webinar will also include live test questions and a live Q&A discussion (based on audience questions).

The programme of this webinar will explore the practical optimisation of paediatric CT protocols, from protocol design and selection of appropriate technical parameters to adapting examinations to the individual child. It is aimed at radiologists, radiographers, and medical physicists who want to improve their skills in:
► Understanding the principles of designing CT protocols specifically for paediatric patients rather than adapting adult protocols
► Recognising opportunities to tailor CT examinations to patient size, clinical indication, and examination requirements while maintaining appropriate diagnostic image quality

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

After watching the webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Identify limitations of adult-based CT protocols when applied to paediatric patients, recognising their impact on radiation dose and diagnostic quality.
  • Apply patient-specific optimisation strategies, including weight- or size-based adjustments, to adapt CT protocols for children.
  • Evaluate key protocol parameters (e.g., kVp, mAs, scan range, phases) and their role in balancing dose and image quality in paediatric CT.
  • Collaborate effectively across radiologists, radiographers, and medical physicists to design, implement, and continuously improve paediatric CT protocols.

On-demand access is available for registered participants for one week after the course, afterwards exclusively for holders of the ESR Premium Education Package.
