COURSE INFORMATION
The webinar series will explore key challenges in radiation protection and optimisation in paediatric CT and imaging of pregnant patients. Across four webinars, topics will include balancing radiation dose with diagnostic confidence, practical optimisation of paediatric CT protocols, appropriate imaging and risk communication during pregnancy, and identifying variability, overuse and hidden radiation exposure in everyday paediatric CT practice.
Each webinar will include presentations and discussions from a radiologist, a radiographer and a medical physicist. In addition to this, each webinar will also include live test questions and a live Q&A discussion (based on audience questions).
The programme of this webinar will explore the sources of variability and unnecessary radiation exposure associated with paediatric CT in everyday clinical practice. It is aimed at radiologists, radiographers, and medical physicists who want to improve their skills in:
► Understanding the clinical and technical factors that contribute to radiation exposure and variability in paediatric CT
► Identifying practical approaches to reduce unnecessary imaging and improve consistency in paediatric CT practice
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
After watching the webinar, participants will be able to:
- Recognise sources of radiation variability in paediatric CT across different institutions and clinical practices.
- Identify common situations of overuse and unjustified CT examinations in paediatric imaging, particularly in routine clinical scenarios.
- Explain how repeat scans, workflow factors, and protocol inconsistencies contribute to hidden radiation exposure.
- Reflect on current practice and identify opportunities to improve justification and reduce unnecessary radiation in children.
On-demand access is available for registered participants for one week after the course, afterwards exclusively for holders of the ESR Premium Education Package.
