1. To discuss white spots of vascular origin, known as white matter hyperintensities (WMH), or white matter lesions of presumed vascular origin. 2. To review the relevance of the patient's age and the risk of dementia, stroke, and death. 3. To differentiate from other common causes of WMH and review the pros and cons of visual rating scales and computational volume measures. 4. To discuss the available interventions to prevent WMH worsening.
