Covid-19 has had a profound impact on breast cancer screening services. Even before the pandemic, screening programmes suffered from radiologist shortages, but the closure of screening programmes and a fall in the number of women attending their appointments has exacerbated the situation to crisis levels.
Across Europe, millions of women have missed a screening round due to Covid; estimates suggest that in the UK alone 1 million women may have been affected. It is clear that screening providers need to adopt a new approach to deal with this backlog, and they also need to build back better to address the workforce crisis and ensure the sustainability of breast screening programmes.
Many providers are turning to AI as a possible solution. But how can they ensure that they are able to deploy at pace whilst maintaining patient safety?
In this session, an NHS breast screening expert will share their experience of evaluating Mia™, Kheiron’s AI-enabled breast-screening solution, in everyday practice. Learn about the challenges and opportunities experienced , and how Mia improved the patient experience whilst reducing the burden on radiologists. The results from Kheiron’s recent clinical study, which suggest that Mia can provide the gold standard quality of double reading with a single human reader, will also be discussed.
