Thoracic imaging is an important part of the routine work of radiologists, and its practice requires regular updating of knowledge in order to make the most of it for patient management. Computed tomography (CT) is the main imaging technique for the evaluation of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, which may be due to proximal or small airway disease, and for the evaluation of infectious diseases such as tuberculous and non-tuberculous mycobacterial infections. CT scanning is also essential for detecting complications after thoracic surgery. This course will also focus on the diagnostic approach of ground-glass opacification and on the thoracic manifestations of connective tissue diseases, the prognosis of which is mainly due to lung involvement.

  • To learn how to recognize small airway disease on CT
  • To learn about the causes of tracheal thickening
  • To understand the diagnostic approach to ground glass opacification
  • To differentiate between normal and abnormal CT findings in the postoperative setting after thoracotomy
