COURSE INFORMATION
The webinar series will explore key challenges in radiation protection and optimisation in paediatric CT and imaging of pregnant patients. Across four webinars, topics will include balancing radiation dose with diagnostic confidence, practical optimisation of paediatric CT protocols, appropriate imaging and risk communication during pregnancy, and identifying variability, overuse and hidden radiation exposure in everyday paediatric CT practice.
Each webinar will include presentations and discussions from a radiologist, a radiographer and a medical physicist. In addition to this, each webinar will also include live test questions and a live Q&A discussion (based on audience questions).
The programme of this webinar will explore the relationship between radiation dose, image quality, and diagnostic confidence in paediatric CT. It is aimed at radiologists, radiographers, and medical physicists who want to improve their skills in:
► Securing adequate diagnostic image quality in chest CT scans
► Avoiding image artefacts and finding an optimal balance between radiation exposure and image quality
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
After watching the webinar, participants will be able to:
- Explain why dose reduction alone does not guarantee safe or effective paediatric CT, recognising the risks of non-diagnostic imaging.
- Assess the impact of radiation dose on image quality and diagnostic confidence, particularly in common paediatric clinical scenarios.
- Apply ALARA and ALADA principles to optimise decision-making, balancing dose, image quality, and clinical indication.
- Collaborate across professional roles to define and achieve diagnostically acceptable image quality in paediatric CT practice.
On-demand access is available for registered participants for one week after the course, afterwards exclusively for holders of the ESR Premium Education Package.
